re/vision
re/vision is a one-on-one creative writing apprenticeship program for those who are currently incarcerated. Mentoring is conducted via mailed correspondence and feedback, and is facilitated by working writers, MFA students, and editors. We offer in-depth feedback, tips on the writing craft, guided readings, and basic tutorials about grammar. Our mentors and writing apprentices correspond an average of four times over the course of a year, allowing mentors time to offer thoughtful criticism and suggestions, while creating space and time for apprentices to cultivate their writing skills and the shaping of work based on attentive feedback.
With the recent publication of The Sentences That Create Us, we have received many more inquiries than we are accustomed to receiving. We like to help as many people as possible, but we are a notably small program. Currently we are able to facilitate an average of 5-10 mentorships per year.
Inquirers for whom we cannot provide a mentorship are offered a variety of other options for mentorship and publication, including our One Page publishing opportunity—launched in August 2022 with “The Maze” by Frankie from Berea, Kentucky.
Although there are no fees charged for the re/vision program, space is limited by the number of available mentors.
If you are currently incarcerated (or know someone who is) and have an interest in beginning a creative writing mentorship, please begin a conversation with us by using the mailing address below.
* NOTE * - Due to the inherent technological challenges involved with e-mail systems like JPay and CorrLinks, we do not use e-mail for re/vision correspondence. Thank you.
